Royals' Opening Day

Friday, April 13th, is the Kansas City Royals’ Home Opener game against the Cleveland Indians.   As season ticket holders, we’re looking forward to all the pre-game festivities.  In spite of our team’s recent history, there is a sense of anticipation and renewed enthusiasm for our Boys of Summer.  It’s a new season with some new talent and generally high hopes.

As you enter Kauffman Stadium, you see that the celebrating starts in the parking lot...before the first pitch is ever thrown.  Tailgating sets the mood for the day.  Everyone is jovial and willing to include baseball fans of all shapes, sizes and allegiances in their pre-game customs.  Once you’re inside the stadium, the familiar sounds and smells remind you why this annual ritual is repeated in ball parks all over America.  The stands become the backdrop of a summer theatre creating comedy, drama and intrigue for all who participate.  With new merchandise in the shops, new menu items to experience and, of course, the old standards - cold beer, peanuts and popcorn, there’s something for every person attending!

Following the obligatory welcome and introductions, the sold-out crowd gets on their feet with hands to heart to sing the Star Spangled Banner and then -- the most thrilling part of the day -- the fly-over by the amazing US Air Force and their awesome planes from Whiteman Air Force Base, Knob Noster, Missouri.

Opening Day at the ballpark…it just doesn’t get any better than this…although a win would certainly boost our happy factor and just possibly increase our team loyalty!
